Kreeri, June 14: The family members of a 26-year-old new mother who died in Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) on June 01 have alleged “negligence” on the part of the doctor at the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kreeri.

According to family members of the deceased woman, Hafeeza was brought to the SDH Kreeri on May 31 when she went into labour.

“She underwent a C-Section on June 01 at Kreeri hospital and gave birth to a baby girl, but the same evening Hafeeza complained of pain and started bleeding. The concerned doctor Saiqa Zahoor, who had conducted her surgery was unable to stop the bleeding,” said Hafeeza’s father-in-law, Ghulam Rasool Lone.

“Later, the said doctor asked us to take Hafeeza to Lala Ded Hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment and she even accompanied us in the ambulance.  At Lala Ded also, doctors failed to stop the bleeding, following which she was taken to SMHS Hospital and was admitted in ward number 06 where she breathed her last,” Lone added.

Speaking to ‘Kashmir Images’, Shabir Ahmad Lone, husband of deceased Hafeeza said that his wife was being treated by the same Dr. Saiqa for the past nine months of her pregnancy.

“All the different tests conducted on her during pregnancy establish that she was in normal condition before being operated at SDH Kreeri. But to save herself from law, Dr. Saiqa has taken away all the medical reports of my wife and she is not returning the same to us. She claims that Hafeeza died due to kidney and urine problem without citing any evidence for this claim,” the husband added.

When contacted Dr Saiqa Zahoor said, “I left no loophole during the surgery and Hafeez along with baby girl was doing fine.”

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kreeri, Javaid Ahmad, told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the investigation is on. “We have asked the doctor to not operate patients till the investigation is over. However, she can consult patients in the OPD during working days,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Baramulla Bashir Ahmad Chalkoo said that they will investigate the matter thoroughly.

Pertinently, the temporary death certificate, a copy of which lies with ‘Kashmir Images’, of the deceased woman states that Hafeeza died of “septic shock”.
