The inauguration was attended by Dr. G.N Sheikh, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and other faculty members from the veterinary college, Col Ravi Girdhar and other Army officers from the station, he said.

He further said that the idea of the internship training program was conceived in the year 2005 when it started off as a week long program, today, it has been scaled up as an intensive 14 day schedule. This highly popular course provides first hand exposure and experience to fresh veterinary graduates of the valley on various aspects of equines.  Till now more than 700 students in 14 batches have been imparted this training.

In the inaugural ceremony, Commandant of the hospital welcomed all the dignitaries and interns and told that this training programme is a ‘one of its kind’ program conducted by Army that engages university level students in professional collaboration, said the spokesman.

Dr. G N Sheikh, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, SKUAST- Kashmir, in his address urged the interns to utilize this rare opportunity through active participation and keenness so as to learn new techniques and finer nuances of equine practice. Dr. Sheikh expressed happiness that Army and specially RVC has been positive in supporting capacity building and professional upgradation of youth in the Valley.

He said, “It would be a great opportunity for students to learn from the expertise of the Remount Veterinary Corps.”

Col Ravi Girdhar, in his keynote address expressed that such collaboration is a great endeavor in imparting education on equines to the budding veterinarians. Col Girdhar mentioned, “Education is an important tool for nation building and RVC being the premiere organization on equine care and management in the country, the students must involve themselves and learn as much as they can”.
