Tangmarg: Students of Government Middle School Tumberhama have to risk their lives to reach school as in absence of a bridge they have to cross the gushing Ferozpora Nallah on daily basis.

Parents can be seen shouldering their wards who have to reach their school which is located on the other side of the stream.

“Whenever it rains, the water level in the Ferozpora Nallah increases and thereby restricting our movement to the school,” said Adil Ahmad, a student of class 8th.

A parent of a school going kid said that whenever it rains, the water level increases and submerges the rocks that have been aligned by the villagers to cross over.

To cross the deadly stream – Ferozpora Nallah that is famous for its water currents and flow – is not a cake walk for even adults as it has already claimed several lives including that of a student, Danish Ahmad Malik, who drowned while crossing the Nallah and a woman had lost her life while crossing the stream, locals said.

“Till a concrete motorable bridge is constructed over the Nallah, the authorities should build a reliable footbridge for ensuring the risk free public pedestrian movement,” they added.

Meanwhile, Zonal Education Officer Tangmarg said, “We will take up the matter with the concerned department.”
