A three-year-old girl in Bandipora was allegedly raped by a 20-years-old local boy at Malikpora, Trehgam area of Sumbal in Bandipora district.

Acting on complaint of the victim’s family, police arrested the accused, identified as Tahir Ahmad Mir (20), son of Abdul Rehman Mir, resident of Malikpora, Trehgam.

The angry protesters said since rape is a major crime, the accused should be punished as per Islamic law.

They said the dastardly act against the little girl has brought shame to the entire Valley.

“Our aim to assemble here is to convey a loud and clear message that we unequivocally condemn such dastardly acts. There is no space for such people in our society whose conscience is dead,” protestors said.

The protesters appealed the government to ensure that the accused does not get any concession is punished sternly for his misdeed.

“This is unfortunate that we have people like him (accused) in our society who even doesn’t hesitate to victimize infants to quench their lust. All of us who have assembled here will continue our struggle till the accused is sentenced to death,” the protesters added.

Expressing solidarity with victim’s family, which they said is in a state of shock since the day little girl was victimized, they said the struggle in form of peaceful protests will continue until the guilty is punished.
