Div Com pitches for discouraging use of banned polythene material, promotion of Jute bags

JAMMU, MAY 10: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, today chaired a meeting with officers of Handloom, Handicraft and other concerned departments to review employment generation programmes.

The meeting was attended by Joint Director Handloom, Kanta Devi, Deputy Director Handicraft, CEO, SMDA, and senior functionaries of JKEDI, KVIB, Sericulture IIT, ITI and other concerned departments besides member of business associations.

Joint Director Handloom displayed various hand made products by women Self Help Groups including cotton handbags, file covers, shawls etc. Besides, officers of Handicraft department apprised the Div Com of the products being made by the different units besides raising other issues concerning further streamlining of working of the department.

The Div Com asked the Handloom department to develop cotton and jute bags and other items to discourage use of banned polythene material. He also asked the Handicraft department to encourage the interested and potential persons for adopting production of bamboo products as entrepreneurship.

The Div Com also asked the business houses to extend marketing support to these artisans and SHGs sell their products in a hassle free manner. He asked them to vigorously encourage selling of their products in jute and cotton bags which will facilitate these groups to market their production easily.
