JKEDI bootcamp campaign for Kashmir division concludes

Srinagar, May 01: The bootcamp campaign of Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) under Startup Policy-J&K Wednesday concluded with its last program in Bandipora district.

The 20th bootcamp for Kashmir division was held at Government Degree College, Bandipora in which 160 students besides the faculty and students from ITI participated. 25 ideas were received from the participant students on the occasion. A similar boot camp was held at Central University of Kashmir, Ganderbal in which 105 students participated and 30 ideas were pitched.

The bootcamps were conducted by JKEDI Startup team. At Bandipora the program was coordinated by JKEDI District Nodal Office led by Ahsaan Ellahi Naik, DNO, who gave a brief about the institute working and achievements in district Bandipora.

An exhaustive presentation on the need and history of innovation was delivered and need for innovation since times immemorial was also discussed. Syed Firdous, Project Manager JKEDI discussed various aspects of JKEDI Startup Policy- 2018 and urged the participants to develop a critical thinking which could lead to innovations in different fields.

The program was followed by the idea pitching session wherein the students were briefed with some of the existing problems and the solutions were sought from the students. It was the 20th program of its kind. Boot camps for Ladakh region are in pipeline.

Principal GDC Bandipora, H G Mustafa, Dr Asif Shah, Dr. Kousar Parveen, and Career Counseling Officer from DECC, Ms. Amira Wali spoke on the occasion.

The bootcamp campaign began earlier on April 03 from GDC Pulwama followed by Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, Srinagar, Baramulla (SSM College), Budgam, Kupwara, CUK Ganderbal and Bandipora. 10 boot camps were organized in which more than 1800 youth from different streams of education including engineering colleges and degree colleges participated. JKEDI received over 400 business ideas from the participants.

In the next phase, JKEDI will screen the ideas received for the acceleration phase. The potential as well as innovative ideas will be considered for upscaling at incubation centre, at JKEDI Pampore campus. JKEDI and the innovative idea givers will work jointly to refine them further.

The main objective of organizing the boot camps was to bring mass awareness about the Startup policy and to inculcate the spirit of innovation among the youth and give a flip to the conversion of innovative ideas into profitable business ventures.

J&K Startup Policy-2018 was introduced in September 2018 and under this initiative, the Government of J&K envisages to build a robust startup ecosystem in the State to nurture innovation and providing opportunities to budding Startups.
