Srinagar, April 26: Contractors Coordination Committee (CCC) on Thursday held protest here against Deputy Mayor Srinagar, Sheikh Imran accusing him of derailing developmental work in the city and creating hurdles to get their pending bills released.

Shouting slogans against the Deputy Mayor whom they accused of being a ‘debtor’ of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, the contractors led by their Chairman Farooq Ahmad Dar this afternoon gathered at Lal Chowk and staged demonstrations to protest undue harassment by the latter and his counselors.

They alleged that Sheikh Imran taking undue advantage of his official position acts as a stumbling block in developmental works of the Srinagar city.

“We have gathered here against Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran and his counselors who try to sabotage the developmental work for their personal interest. Not only this, he also creates hurdles to get our pending bills worth crores of rupees released,” Dar told reporters.

He said Sheikh Imran continues to violate norms of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation ever since he became the Deputy Mayor.

“A bank defaulter cannot dictate terms to us, we are often at loggerheads with the government with regards to our demands, however we never make people to suffer for our own interests. We appeal the Governor to seek an explanation from Sheikh Imran for his unlawful activities,” Dar added.

Earlier, Sheikh Imran while refuting the allegations of contractors asked them to tender unconditional apologies to him for maligning his image in public.

Sheikh Imran said he never created any problems for them instead forwarded their bills to the concerned for their early release.
