Campus cleanliness drive held at KU

Srinagar, April 23: On the eve of Earth Day Celebrations-2019 a campus cleanliness drive was held at University of Kashmir (KU), main campus here on Tuesday.

The drive was organised by the Department of Students Welfare (DSW) and Department of Earth Sciences (Geoinformatics program) in collaboration with National Service Scheme (NSS), Proctorial Wing and Division of Environment and Hygiene, KU.

According to the organizers of the drive the objective was to built environmental stewardship and help in reducing, reusing and recycling to decrease the amount of waste produced in the campus and to work together in protecting the planet.

The drive was kick started by Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, KU from the lawns of Vice Chancellor`s Secretariat.

While interacting with the faculty members and student volunteers on the occasion Prof Talat said “It is our primary duty to keep our surroundings and campus clean. Such activities should be promoted on a larger scale. Cleanliness is very essential for the sustenance of life on Earth.”

“We at Kashmir University have to be leaders for the society to guide it on issues vital for its growth, development and well being. We cannot live in isolation from the people and the society around us as they look upon us for guidance and university should be ready to do that always, ever,” added Prof Talat who joined the student volunteers in the drive and went around the campus.

Hundreds of students showed lot of enthusiasm in the cleanliness drive and appreciated the efforts of the University administration in keeping the campus clean and green, a statement issued said.
