JAGITI (NAGROTA), APRIL 21: National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Sunday reiterated its demand of renaming Indian Institute of Technology at Nagrota after Mian Didoo as a humble tribute to the great Dogra warrior.

“It will be a befitting homage to the illustrious son of the soil, who fought for the cause of millions, irrespective of religion, cast, creed and colour”, Rana said at a function held in observance of the birthday celebration at Mian Didoo Ji Devsthan, Jagti in Nagrota, organized by Mian Didoo Welfare Committee.

Rana demanded 50 per cent reservation in the non-academic and other subordinate positions of the IIT for the locals, describing them as major stakeholders in the establishment of this prestigious national level institution.

Rana also announced the setting up of a Fund for grant of scholarship to outstanding boy and girl, two students each of the metric and 12th classes, to promote standard academics at the higher education level. He made the initial contribution for the Fund, which will be devoted to the uplift of educational facilities.

Paying tributes to Mian Didoo, he said the land of warriors will never compromise with the identity and dignity for which Mian Didoo waged a relentless war over two centuries ago.

While paying homage to the great warrior, Mr Zorawar Singh of Team Jammu said that Mian Didoo has left an indelible imprint of his selfless service towards the society and his life will continue to serve as a guiding philosophy to coming generations.
