Shadimarg, April 15: The Baisakhi festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour in Shadimarg village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday.

Thousands of Sikh devotees thronged Chati Padshahi Gurduwara at Shadimarg on the second day of Baisakhi festival and paid their obeisance at the Gurduwara by participating in Shabbat Keertan, Gurubani and Khand Paath.

President, Dr. Ravi Singh, Gurduwara Prabandh committee Pulwama, said: “The Chati Padshahi Gurduwara at Shadimarg is a historic place. About 300 years ago our 6th Guru, Hargobind Singh Sahib visited this place along with Mughal emperor Jahangir and stayed here.”

“This Gurduwara was built at the same place where Guru Hargobind stayed,” Singh added.

He said that they celebrate Baisakhi for three days. “The first day of Baisakhi is celebrated at our home, the second day here at Shadimarg and third day at Gurduwara in Tral,” Singh said, “people from Sikh community across Kashmir and from different areas of Punjab visit the Gurduwara.”

“The Gurduwara is decorated three days prior to the Baisakhi festival and members of Muslim community also help in decoration, cleaning and preparing Langar, which is served to all devotees irrespective of their religion,” Singh said.

Singh further said that the place is a symbol of mutual brotherhood as a saint, Katu Shah, who is highly revered by Muslims, has been buried near the Gurduwara.
