Srinagar: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee(APSCC) has expressed grief over the demise of Dr. Daljit Singh

In a joint statement, issued after a condolence meeting,  APSCC  Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina and other Sikh leaders including Ajit Singh Mastaana (from UK), professor Dalip Singh Deepak, principal  Niranjan Singh, Kanwal Kashmiri (presently in Pakistan), Sant Singh, Hukumat  Singh, Dr. Jaipal Singh,  Davinder Singh Sikh Missionary College and others appreciated Dr. Daljit Singh’s role in implementation of endovement  Gurduwara Act in J&K state for management of gurdwaras of J&K state.

“He always stood for the unity of the Sikhs in the state. In the year 2008 he was also closely associated in the formation of APSCC to strive for economical, social issue of Sikhs in the state,” the statement observed.

Dr. Daljit Singh was from village Dardpora, district Baramulla. His father late Gunwant Singh was a Sikh social activist and reformer who founded “SAHIK SABHA” which is still distributing funds to the needy people especially widows.

His early education was from Khalsa High School, and studied medicine from Medical College Indore besides had a fellowship from London. He was instrumental  in shaping the neonatal care services in Kashmir.

In an another condolence message, grief was expressed over the demise of Professor Seva Singh, who expired today in Jammu. He was born in Singhpora Kalan, District Baramula. He remained closely associated with Punjabi literature, and retired as the professor of Punjabi and remained associated with many colleges of J&K State.

He was founder President of Punjabi Sahit Sabha and authored dozens of books on Punjabi language, literature and highlighted folk and culture of Sikhs in Kashmir. Govt of Jammu and Kashmir have conferred many awards for his contribution towards the society and Sikhs of J&K. He was closely associated with Radio Kashmir and Doordarshan Kashmir, right from its inception.
