Jammu, Apr 11: The curfew imposed in Kishtwar district following killing of senior RSS functionary Chanderkant Sharma and his PSO remained in force for the third consecutive day Thursday even as police rounded up several suspects for questioning.

Police have picked up several over ground workers (OGWs) for interrogation in connection with the killing of Sharma and his PSO by militants in Kishtwar district, a senior police officer said.

“The curfew continues to remain in force in Kishtwar for third consecutive day today. There is strict enforcement of curfew,” Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner A S Rana was quoted as saying by PTI.

Rana said there was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the district and strict vigilance was being maintained in all sensitive areas of the district.

Chanderkant Sharma (52), a senior RSS functionary and his security guard were killed on Tuesday when a militant opened fire at a health centre in Kishtwar town, prompting authorities to impose a curfew in the communally sensitive region.

“We have picked up some people, mostly known as over ground workers (OGWs). They are being interrogated,” the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu zone, M K Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of his visit to a polling station to oversee the security arrangements.

“An operation is on (to track down the militant involved in the attack). The person has not been identified so far. We are trying to identify him,” he said.

Asked about the weapon used in the attack, the IGP said it appeared that it had been hidden inside Kishtwar only.

Sinha said security had been beefed up in Kishtwar and the curfew remained in force.
