JAMMU, March 31: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), a National level Trade Union politically affiliated to the Communist Party of India, on Sunday held 3rd conference of Bhawan Nirman Kamgar Union Kathua at Royal Palace Chadwal Mode, Kathua.

According to the statement issued by Secretary CITU, the conference was presided over by Ajit Kumar president of the union. About 500 delegates participated in the conference. “Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, State President CITU was chief guest on the occasion. The conference deliberated upon various issues and problems confronting working class, with the determination to intensify struggles to fight anti-working class policies of the government.”

While addressing the conference, Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami said: “Modi govt’s report card of almost five years is before people and there are only failures. Some of the big failures of the Modi-Government have been demonetisation, GST, betrayal with farmers, weakening of institutions, cultivation of hate and unemployment.”

“As part of the ‘achhe din’ campaign in 2014 Modi government had made a commitment to provide ten crore jobs in five-years.  By the time of the completion of the four years of the Modi government in May 2018, it became evident to the youth of the country that this was another fairy tale. The demonetization tsunami demolished even the jobs which were there before,” Secretary CITU quoted Tarigami as saying.

“Instead of providing social security to the working people this government adopted new laws to promote contractuilsation and temporary employment. Minimum wages of Rs 18 thousand to all workers, whether they are in informal sector or in schemes, or temporary workers in government sector is nowhere.  Even the already announced wages are not being implemented,” said Tarigami.

“The assault of the Modi govt on the livelihood of the working class can be defeated only by the united mass struggles. Instead of redressing the problems, the government functionaries are pursuing the policies of deceit and polarisation. They use the old divisive tricks to divide the ranks of the toiling people,” he added.

“Om Parkash, General Secretary CITU while addressing the conference, condemned the treatment towards construction workers in the state. He demanded simplifying the process of registration offline and online, pension scheme at par with Delhi state, minimum wages of Rs. 18000/- and social security benefits  like ESI, Pension, EPF etc. He also demanded restoration of Marriage Assistance scheme for the construction workers,” reads the statement.

“SP Kesar, senior CITU leader delivered inaugural speech highlighting the demands of Bhawan Nirman Kamgar Union. Raj Kumar placed the General Secretary report. The thorough discussion was held on the report in which more than 20 delegates participated,” it added.

At the end, the conference elected 39 members working committee with Raj Kumar as General Secretary, Ajit Raj as President and Som Lal as cashier of the union.

Others who spoke on the occasion include Sewa Ram, Hari Singh, Jia Lal, Romesh Chand and Jagdesh Sharma.
