Sopore, March 21: Three cops from Jammu and Kashmir Police and a civilian were injured in Warpora village of Sopore town on Thursday after a suspected militant lobbed a grenade on them.

According to reports, Station House Officer (SHO) Dangiwacha along with two constables was on law and order duty at Warpora village and in the meantime a suspected militant lobbed a grenade injuring three.

Hospital sources identified the injured persons as SHO Dangiwacha Mudasir Geelani Belt No 7843, CT Ashiq Hussain 341, Imtiyaz Ahmad 653 and a civilian Bashir Ahmad son of Abdul Gani resident of Warpora.

“All three cops were shifted to 92 Army Base hospital Badami Bagh Srinagar,” they said.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Javaid Iqbal, said: “Three policemen including SHO were injured in Warpora after a young boy aged 13-14 years lobbed a grenade on a police party at Warpora Sopore.

Giving details, a police spokesman today said that militants today at about 1020 hours lobbed a grenade on a police party in Warpora area of Sopore.

In this incident, SHO Dangiwacha Muddasir Ahmad and his escort personnel received injuries. Both the injured have been shifted to hospital for medical attention.

Area has been cordoned and searches are going on in the area. Pertinently it is part of the encounter site, where SFs have laid cordon.

Meanwhile, suspected militants Thursday opened indiscriminate firing on 179 BN CRPF camp at Main Chowk Sopore which left one civilian injured.

According to reports and eyewitnesses at 10:45 in the forenoon a pheran borne militant opened fire on CRPF camp  which created panic across town and shopkeepers pulled shutters of shops and left for safer place.

During firing incident, one civilian Irshad Ahmad Mir Son of Bashir Ahmad Resident of Chak Roday Khan Sopore received bullet injury in left leg. The injured was shifted to Sopore hospital for treatment where his condition is stated to be stable.

Superintendent of police Sopore Javaid Iqbal told Kashmir Images that few rounds of fire were fired by unknown persons.

“We are ascertaining the facts,” he said.

Soon after the incident, number of youths took to streets and started pelting stones on security forces.
