Plantation drive held at STC Sheeri

Sheeri, March 12: STC Sheeri in collaboration with Rahim Greens Srinagar and Social Forestry Department organized an environment awareness program and massive plantation drive at the training center on Tuesday.

The plantation drive was inaugurated by Principal STC Sheeri Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP Showkat Ahmad who was flanked by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Javid Iqbal, ecological expert Vikram Singh and other officials of police and social forestry.

On the occasion, rich tributes were paid to Raheem Greens who left for heavenly abode on Tuesday morning. The speakers deliberated upon importance of safeguarding overall ecological balance by reducing the affect of green house gasses. Trainees undergoing BRTC in the Training Centre and people from different walks of life and officials of social forestry participated in the awareness program.  .

Ecological expert Vikram Singh highlighted the importance of plantation for saving the environment from hazardous pollution caused by indiscriminate felling of trees and the measures of safeguarding the environment.

While express his gratitude and welcoming the guests Principal STC Sheeri SSP Showkat Ahmad stressed upon the participants to develop the sense of responsibility planting more and more trees to save environment from degradation.

“Since the inception of this training institution thousands of trees of different varieties have been planted in vast premises of STC Sheeri and this year we are planting around  11000 deodar plants .These initiatives are being taken to enhance the beauty of the centre and to preserve the ecological balance,” SSP Showkat Ahmed Ahmed told media.

“Thousands of trees different varieties and species obtained from social Forestry and Rahim Greens were planted by the recruits undergoing training in the Centre and in the premises of the Training Centre,” he added.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Javid Iqbal informed that around one lac plants are being planted in the social forestry division Baramulla.
