Srinagar, March 02: Criticizing the government’s decision to ban Jamaat-e-Islami, Former Union Minister and a senior leader of Congress, Prof. Saifuddin Soz has said that such measures had further angered the people in Jammu and Kashmir State adding that the Governor Administration had to realize that the Governor rule can, under no circumstances, be considered a substitute for an elected Government.
In a press release issued here, Soz alleged that it was in ‘Governor’s own short-run administrative interests’ to avoid decisions that carry constitutional implications. “The latest decision by the Governor to implement Central Govt. decision on 77th Constitutional Amendment, to the State, constitutes a tress-pass. This measure needs popular support and should have been left to an elected Govt., even though it offers benefits to a section of society in the state,” Soz ws quoted by the press release as stating.
Stating that the Governor’s Administration was at fault for it doesn’t often measure the implications of implementing Central Govt.’s decisions in a rush. The blanket ban on Jammu and Kashmir Jamaat-e-Islami for five years was uncalled for, Soz said adding that the reasons given by the Central Govt. for such a decision were not plausible. “The common people in Kashmir feel that banning Jamaat-e-Islami will cause further unrest on ground and worsen the situation,” Soz added.
