Baramulla/Srinagar, Mar 01: A civilian was injured and over twenty residential houses damaged in fresh cross-LoC shelling in Kamalkote village of Uri sector which many families have moved towards safer places in Uri town.
Locals of Kamalkote told ‘Kashmir Images’ over phone that their village always becomes the first victim whenever there is shelling from across the LoC. They said in fresh shelling Reyaz Ahmad, son of late Nazir Ahmad of Gagi Madya Kamalkote got injured, and was rushed to Uri hospital.
They said over 20 residential houses were also damaged in the shelling, forcing the people to move towards safer places in the town.
Caught in cross-border shelling, families from Kamalkote, Silikote, Balkote, Tilawari, Churanda and Batgarh have been asked to move to safer places and ambulances were sent to bring them to a temporary relief cum migrant camp established in the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Uri town.
“We want both India and Pakistan to put end to the ceasefire violations or relocate and rehabilitate us at safer places where we can live a peaceful life,” locals added.
SDM Uri Tariq Ahmed Malik said people have been asked to move to safer places.
“We have arranged ambulances and essential services and commodities for the affected people. I assured all kind of help and support to the displaced families,” he added.
Meanwhile, the cross-LoC shelling also continued for the eighth consecutive day in Rajouri and Poonch districts leaving a woman injured.
“Pakistani troops resorted to firing and mortar shelling along the LoC in Krishnagati sector and it ended around 0130 hour,” an official said.
The firing and mortar shelling continued overnight in several sectors of Poonch and Rajouri districts, the official said adding the Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively.
A woman identified as Naseem Akhtar was injured in the firing in Mankote area of Poonch, officials said.
In view of the prevailing situation, authorities have ordered temporary closure of educational institutions in a 5-km radius along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
They have asked all border dwellers to remain inside their homes.
Amid high tension along the LoC, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh accompanied by the White Knight Corps Commander, Lt Gen Paramjit Singh visited forward posts in Rajouri Sector to review the operational preparedness on Thursday.
