Women’s Commission to safeguard girl students: Nayeema Mehjoor

Srinagar: On the occasion of International Women’s Day the biggest event in the State was held at GHSS Kothibagh Srinagar which was organized by the mutual collaboration of Directorate of School Education Kashmir and State Women’s Commission. Chairman of State Women’s Commission, Nayeema Mehjoor was the Chief Guest on the occasion and Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo was the Guest of Honor.

Before the commencement of the function, the Chairperson of the State Women’s Commission Nayeema Mehjoor led a “Women Safety March” in the campus of GHSS Kothibagh.

After the march Director School Education Kashmir and Chairman of the Women’s Commission jointly planted “Plant for Women Safety” and conveyed the message that the safety of the women is the duty of every citizen and in this regard Department of School Education and State Women’s Commission will be taking joint steps to spread the awareness to eradicate the evil of domestic violence.

Director School Education Kashmir, Dr. G N Itoo announced that “Female Self Defence Clubs” will be established in all High and Higher Secondary Schools of the Valley.

During the function students presented many cultural programmes reflecting the domestic violence on women and the safety of the women.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the Women’s Commission said that this day gives us the message that the violence against the women should be shunned. She said that in order to make sure the safety of women it will be better to change the attitude towards women.

Speaking on the occasion Director School Education Kashmir said that in order to maintain the dignity of the female students in the schools the Department will take necessary steps in the upcoming session.
