Jammu, Feb 28: The State Administrative Council (SAC) which met here today with Governor Satya Pal Malik in chair accorded sanction to the release of an additional installment of 3 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) payable on basic pay to State government employees and pensioners w.e.f. 01.01.2019.

The arrears accumulated on account of DA hike will be paid in cash after 1st April, 2019 in respect of all categories of employees as well as pensioners.

In respect of employees of NPS, employee’s share of 10 percent of DA arrears too shall be drawn and with equivalent as employees share, shall be deducted at source for crediting the same to the respective PRAN No’s.

With today’s decision, the employees will now be entitled to 12 percent DA on their Basic Pay w.e.f 01.01.2019, an official press release informed.

It said the decision will benefit about 4.50 lakh State government employees and 1.60 lakh pensioners.

The impact on the exchequer on account of Dearness Allowance would be Rs 600 crore for the financial year 2019-20.

The State Administrative Council (SAC) which met here today with Governor Satya Pal Malik in chair accorded sanction to the establishment of 10 new Government Degree Colleges at various locations during the years 2019-2020-2021.

The colleges will be established at Tulail (Bandipora), Boniyar (Baramulla), Soibugh (Budgam), Kastigarh (Doda), Jourian (Jammu), Women College, Bhagwati Nagar (Jammu), Kralpora (Kupwara), Dharhal (Rajouri), Ghagwal (Samba), and Mongri-Panchari at Kainth Gali (Udhampur), an official press release informed.

It said the government has constituted a committee headed by Principal Secretary Finance with Administrative Secretaries of Planning, Higher Education and School Education departments as its members to examine the requirements of new degree colleges in the state as per the feasibility of each location.

Based on the recommendations of the said committee, the SAC in an earlier meeting held on January 14, approved locations for establishment of 40 new Degree Colleges in the state.

Continuing with its mandate, the committee after considering requests for new colleges received by the Higher Education department made recommendations for opening new degree colleges in locations that include far flung, underserved and backward areas of the state like Tulail, Kralpora, Dharhal and Mongri besides a Women Degree College in Bhagwati Nagar Jammu.

With the establishment of 10 new colleges in the state, students will have easy access to higher education within their areas. In all Governor’s administration has approved 50 Degree Colleges so far, the press release informed.
