Srinagar, February 27: Day after National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raid at his residence, police barred media to cover a presser called by Hurriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq at his Nigeen residence here Wednesday.

Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a press conference following NIA raid at his residence and the residences of several other separatist leaders on Tuesday.

A source however termed the move as a precautionary measure which was taken to avoid any uncertainty in view of the prevailing situation in the valley and Srinagar city as well.

Meanwhile, scores of the people affiliated with different media outlets were barred from covering Mirwaiz scheduled presser.

“We boarded vehicles arranged by Mirwaiz group from the Press Enclave at 1:15 pm, however when we reached the venue the deployed police did not allow us to get inside the residence of Mirwaiz,” said Nasir-ul-Mushtaq who works with a Mumbai based news channel.

He said the police asked them to leave saying they had strict orders not to allow media to cover the press conference.

It may be in place to mention that NIA conducted raids at the residences of several separatist leaders including incarcerated JKLF Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, DFP Chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah, JKLF-R leader Bitta Karatay, Jammu Kashmir National Front Chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and several others here Tuesday.
