Srinagar: A top commander among two JeM militants were killed after an encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Memander area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
IGP Kashmir S P Pani confirmed that two Jaish militants have been killed in Memander and said it was clean operation without any collateral damage.
However, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, the IGP said.
Earlier a joint team of army, CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Memandar on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area.
As forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter, an official said.
