Budgam, Feb 21: The healthcare services at Budgam’s Aga Syed Yousuf Memorial (ASYM) district hospital are partially hit as district and hospital administration has failed to make the residential quarters, meant for housing the doctors, functional at the said hospital.

According to locals, it was being witnessed that majority of the patients are referred to Srinagar hospitals from Budgam during night hours as there were no staying arrangements for the doctors at Budgam hospital. “Keeping in view this problem, the then Union Minister Saifuddin Soz visited the hospital, in 2008-2009, and laid foundation stone of multi-storey residential quarters,” they said.

Though, according to officials, the construction work was started forthwith and completed on a war footing basis, but the building is yet to be thrown open.

Doctors at hospital told Kashmir Images that if residential quarters are made functional, it would increase the scope of healthcare facilities here. “Residential quarters will certainly help hospital to provide 24×7 service, which otherwise is impossible,” they said.

Residents of Budgam said that they have been raising the issue with all concerned officials but nobody is taking the matter seriously.

When contacted Medical Superintendent ASYM hospital Dr Deeba said that residential quarters are ready, but lack road connectivity. “I have already raised the issue with CMO (Chief Medical Officer), DC (Deputy Commissioner) and Director (Health Services Kashmir) but have not yet received a positive response from them,” she said.
