Srinagar, Feb 14: Protesting against poor results of Class 11, scores of students on Thursday ransacked the office of Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) at Bemina, Srinagar.

An official said the students, who have failed to clear the Class 11 exams, results of which were declared yesterday, staged a protest inside the JKBOSE premises today and damaged window panes and glasses of the ground floor of the Secrecy department.

“The students were demanding statutory marks to declare them as qualified but such marks are given only in case a student is failing in one subject,” a JKBOSE official said, adding that the limit of statutory marks is only 5.

“But students failing in two or more subjects can’t be given this benefit,” the official said.

He said the students should apply for Xerox or re-evaluation of their answer papers instead of staging protests.

“The students created law and order situation here due to which we had to call the police to control the situation,” the official said.

Around 62101 students — 32227 boys and 29874 girls — had appeared in the exams out of which 39406 students — 19284 boys and 20122 girls — have been declared as qualified in the results declared yesterday.

The pass percentage in exams was 63 percent – boys 60 percent and girls 67 percent.

Meanwhile, several videos of the incident have gone viral on social media in which students could be seen smashing the windowpanes of the building and raising pro-Zakir Musa slogans.
