Ganderbal, Feb 11: The delay in widening of vital Pandach-Beehama road is irking locals and commuters in Ganderbal.

The work on the 4 KM Pandach- Beehama road was started last year but the work is going on at a very slow pace, said locals. “The road is of vital importance as it connects Ganderbal with Srinagar. It is currently too narrow which leads to frequent traffic jams,” they added.

Mushatq Ganie, a daily commuter, said that the proposal for the widening of Pandach-Beehama road was made a decade ago. After years of wait, the road widening work was started last year and very little progress has been made so far.

Sources said that District Development Board in 2017 approved funds for widening of the road under Central Roads Fund (CRF) and there are some bottleneck including land acquisition and rehabilitation of the shopkeepers which are hampering the progress of project.

When contacted, Executive Engineer R&B Ganderbal, Sajad Ahmad, said: “I know the work on the project is going slow. It is primarily because of poor funding and slow land acquisition process. Work on 500 m stretch has been almost completed and the rehabilitation of shopkeepers is to be decided by the district administration.”
