15 residential houses damaged in Baramulla, scores suffered partial damage due to heavy snowfall

Baramulla: At least fifteen residential houses were completely damaged and scores of residential and non-residential structures suffered partial damage due to heavy snowfall in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

In frontier Boniyar area, three houses were damaged after their rooftops collapsed due to heavy snowfall.

“House of Haleema Begum, widow of Manzoor Ahmed Malik was damaged in Hiler Peeriniya while as two residential houses of Aijaz Ahmed Naik son of Abdul Salam Naik and Mohmmad Akabar Lone son of Abdul Aziz Lone suffered massive damage at Dachna Salamabad Uri,” a local Zaffar Ahmed told Kashmir Images.

According to reports six residential houses were damaged in Tangmarg area including two at Gugaldora, three in Darakeshi and one in Chuntpari, leaving the families homeless.

A double Storey residential house was damaged as its rooftop collapsed in Reshimuqam Larridora village.

While talking to Kashmir Images one Shafeeq Hussain Shah said that double story residential house of his elder brother Syed Shabir Hussain son of Syed Muzamil Shah Shah got damaged during night after its rooftop collapsed.

“The rooftop collapsed after Magrib with a big cracking sound. The house has suffered huge damage. Thanks to Almighty Allah there was no loss of life or injuries to anyone present in the house,” he further said.

In Kandi Sultanpora, house of Irshad Ahmed Shiekh son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh of Check Doodbugh kandi was damaged and family had narrow escape, said a local Fayaz Ahmed.

In Rafiabad, another residential house belonging to a widow Fata Begium a resident of Dalri Rafiabad was also damaged due heavy snowfall while as three khotas (Kucha houses) of Galibal in upper belt near Hajibal suffered extensive damage after mounds of snow struck from the nearby forest area.

A revenue department official said they are assessing the losses though several areas are still snow bound and thus inaccessible. “We are assessing the total loss and will submit a report soon to concerned quarters so that compensation is provided to the affected families,” he said.
