Srinagar, Feb 06: Responding to Governor Satya Pal Malik’s remarks, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said she was “saddened” to see constitutional authorities “take sides so brazenly”.

“Instead of taking cognizance of the brutality that the young boy has been subjected to, and ordering action against the culprits, it is sad that the honourable governor is talking politics instead. Saddened to see the constitutional authorities taking sides so brazenly,” Mehbooba said in a tweet.

The PDP president said instead of accusing her party of demonising the Army, the Governor should face the situation.

“So please let’s call a spade a spade, instead of accusing us of demonising the Army. I have also spoken to the Corps Commander to take note of this incident,” Mufti said.

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also objected to Malik’s remarks.

“Governor Sb this is an unacceptable statement and an unnecessary interference in politics. At this rate it won’t be long before people stop taking Raj Bhavan seriously. So please consider the office you occupy before you give statements,” Abdullah tweeted.

In a separate statement, PDP said it is ironic that the Governor is “unreasonably exceeding his jurisdiction” by commenting on the political scenario and issuing defamatory statements against a party.

PDP’s chief spokesperson Rafi Ahmad Mir said that “Governor Sahib is unreasonably interfering in politics of Kashmir and influencing the elections and the electorate against PDP. It speaks volumes about his integrity and the leftover sanctity of the office he holds.”

Mir said that it is unfortunate that instead of taking note of unabated human rights violations in Kashmir, Governor is meddling in political affairs of parties in blatant violation of the Constitution.

“We hope that the sanctity of the Raj Bhavan is restored and the constitution becomes the only guiding principle. We hope Governor desists influencing J&K’s politics in future by not exceeding his jurisdiction,” Mir said.
