According to officials, the incident occurred on Feb 01 soon after the gunfight between militants and government forces ended in the Drabgam area of Pulwama, around 5 kms away from Rahmoo.

“Junaid along with his friend Sharafat Bashir, 12, were injured when a grenade they were fiddling with went off. They had found the explosive device near the encounter site in Drabgam village,” officials said.

Both the injured boys were taken to District Hospital Pulwama, wherefrom Junaid, who had suffered grave injuries, was referred to SKIMS Srinagar for specialized treatment.

“The deceased was a 7th standard student and is survived by his parents and one younger sister,” locals said.
