11th CEC Ice Hockey Championship concludes at Kargil

KARGIL, FEB 03: 11th CEC Ice Hockey Championship concluded at Ice Hockey Rink Bemathang, here today. The championship was jointly organized by the Department of Youth Services & Sports and Kargil Ice and Snow Sports Club in which 12 teams participated.

In the final match ITBP team Leh beat Himalayan Winter Sports Club Drass by 5 goals to clinch this year’s title. Shakar Chiktan Red emerged as second runners up.

Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.

Executive Councillor for Works and Information Nassir Hussain Munshi, Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal, Superintendent of Police Kargil Dr Vinod Kumar, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Kargil Muhammad Jaffar, President Kargil Ice and Snow Club Tashi Angchuk besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Executive Councillor congratulated the organizers for successfully conducting the ice hockey championship this year in the district. He also congratulated the participating players for displaying the spirit of sportsmanship, discipline and friendliness during the tournament.

Khan said that considering the popularity of ice hockey among the youth and its potential in the district the Hill Council is presently working on a roadmap to raise the standard of this game so that the budding players are not deprived of the necessary facilities to pursue their goal.

The CEC said that in order to provide proper facilities of coaching and practice to the emerging players the Council is utilizing the services of renowned coaches in the days to come. He said that work on the construction of international standard ice hockey rink would be kick started in near future.

A large number of spectators and sports lovers thronged the venue to witness the final match.
