Srinagar, Jan 29: Police today claimed to have solved a “blind murder case” and arrested the accused person in Kulgam.

According to a police spokesman, on January 17, police received an information that a gas tanker (R114BF-8192) met with an accident near Titanic Point (Glass Tower) on NHW 44.

Seriously injured tanker driver — Naseeb Singh, son of Gori Singh, resident of Kathua — who was brought to Emergency Hospital Qazigund, later succumbed to his injuries on way after being referred to Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital, spokesman said, adding that a case (FIR No. 09/2019) was registered in Police Station Qazigund under relevant sections of law.

However, on the physical examination of the driver’s dead body, police suspected some foul play as it did not appear to be a case of accident, spokesman said, adding a detailed postmortem of deceased was conducted by a board of doctors.

Further investigations revealed that the deceased the driver of gas tanker was beaten ruthlessly by another driver of a truck (JK03G-3817) and was deliberately “allowed to fall in a deep gorge to make it appear as an accident case”.

On the directions of SSP Kulgam, a police team apprehended the accused driver and also seized his truck. During questioning, the accused driver confessed his crime, spokesman said.
