Srinagar, Jan 27: The findings of Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) has only led to the embarrassment of Jammu and Kashmir government and its Education department as it came to fore that more than half of the schools in the state are lacking basic facilities.

The ASER 2018 has revealed that more than two-thirds of the schools in the state are yet to be electrified and the number of such educational institutions is 68.8 percent.

More than 45 percent schools do not have drinking water available, the survey released recently by non-governmental organisation Pratham has found.

The rural national survey mentioned that 45.3 percent schools lack access to playground, while 61.3 percent are without a boundary wall.

It seems that much hyped “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” has also fallen flat in Jammu and Kashmir as 27 percent of its schools do not have toilets, either available or useable, while only 30.2 percent schools have separate provision for girls’ toilets.

Further, 58.8 percent schools are not having library available for the students, while 46.5 percent schools are without physical education teachers, the ASER survey said.
