Identified as Mohammad Younis Faoo, son of Bashir Ahmad Fafoo of Habbakadal, the youth according to family had gone to the market to buy vegetables when the incident took place.

“I recently underwent major surgery while my husband is also ailing, so I told my son Younis to go to the market and get some vegetables. But minutes later we came to know that he has been hospitalized for serious head injuries,” mother of the injured youth told ‘Kashmir Images’.

She said that her son was taken to the hospital by a women traveling in auto-rickshaw when she found him lying in a pool of blood on the road.

“Why didn’t they kill us all? What was the fault of my son who was attacked by brick without any provocation? There were no clashes in the area, everything was normal, you can confirm it from anyone,” she added.

Contradicting family assertions, PRO CRPF Sanjay Kumar claimed the incident took place when some youth pelted stones on the bunker. “But the matter is under investigation,” he said.

Witnesses said the CRPF personnal stationed in the nearby camp threw a stone at Fafoo’s head as soon as he stepped out of his home.

“He was attacked to foment violence in the area. There were no clashes going on as has been claimed by the CRPF,” locals said.

They said “had the elderly persons of the area not insisted on youth to stay calm, situation would have been altogether different at the moment in Habbakadal.”

Locals of Habbakadal have demanded action against the accused CRPF personnel for what they termed “murderous assault upon a teenaged boy”.

When contacted Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital, Dr Saleem Taak said that Fafoo has suffered fracture in skull and has been kept under observation.

“He has suffered fracture in the skull which has also led to blood clot; we are trying our best to remove the clot. He is under observation and I hope he will be alright,” Dr Saleem Taak told ‘Kashmir Images’.
