Srinagar, January 9: Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) as part of its two days nationwide general strike on Wednesday staged demonstrations here against alleged anti national and anti labor class policies of NDA regime.

Braving intense cold, hundreds of trade union activists amid sloganeering like “wake up centre, long live workers unity” under the banner of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) assembled at city center Lal Chowk here this afternoon against the government for failing to fulfill its promises made with the employees.

Protesters who had arrived here from across Kashmir alleged that government’s unresponsive approach towards its employees vis-à-vis the issues they confront prompted them to hit streets in protest.

Pertinent to mention that trade union movement of India had jointly called for two days countrywide general strike on January 8 and 9 against anti-labor, anti-people and anti-national policies of BJP-led NDA Government.

Led by CITU President and Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) State Secretary, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, the protesting trade union activists further alleged that the present regime has floated all the laws laid down by the Indian Parliament

Addressing the gathering, CITU President Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the five year’s dismal performance of the Modi regime affected the overall economy of the country and that of the common man.

He said the present dispensation did nothing for the people other than pushing them to wall by making defiant moves like demonetization, betrayal with farmers, Rafael deal like scandals and weakening of intuitions.

“Report card of this regime is full of absolute failures and the people of this county are well aware of the fact. They need to realize that political gimmicks will not work anymore,” said Tarigami.

He alleged that Modi government was untiringly swaying people through hollow promises during election campaigning in 2014 and the moment they assumed power it only did the bidding for likes of Ambani.

Tarigami said poor people in India have always been at the receiving end while influential and rich were showered with undue favors.
