Srinagar, Dec 28: A militant who was killed in a gunfight at Rinzipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday morning identified as a local militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
A police officer said that the slain militant has been identified as Ishfaq Yousf Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Qoil village of Pulwama.
Wani was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and was involved in many militancy related incidents in Pulwama district, he said.
He said that the family of the slain has been informed and the body is being handed over to them for last rites, he said.
Earlier, the encounter broke out after the search party of Army’s 55 RR and SOG was fired upon by the group of militants at Rinzipora area.
As per the sources, it was a group of three militants, two of them managed to escape from the spot.(GNS)
