Former PDP leader Raja Aijaz Ali joins Peoples Conference

Srinagar, Dec 26: Former PDP leader Raja Aijaz Ali Wednesday joined Peoples Conference (PC) headed by SajadGani Lone here.

Ali, a former IPS officer who retired as IGP, was among the leaders who recently quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.

He had joined the PDP just ahead of the 2014 Assembly elections and unsuccessfully contested from Uri constituency in Baramulla district.He had secured 19000 votes, but was defeated by NC candidate Mohammad Shafi Uri. Ali stood next to Congress candidate TajMohi-ud-Din who was the nearest rival of Shafi in Uri Assembly constituency.

Ali was welcomed into the party by Lone, former minister Imran Ansari — who left PDP earlier last month, and Mayor of Srinagar JunaidAzimMattu, who quit National Conference in September.

Accusing the PDP leadership of ignoring him, Ali said that his growth in the party was curtailed and he was not politically empowered.

“It was my personal effort in last assembly elections that I bagged 19000 votes in Uri, a place where PDP used to get not more than 1200 votes. However, despite my hard efforts I was sidelined in the party,” he had said earlier while parting ways with PDP.

Lone accuses ‘top IPS officer’ of meddling in electoral politics in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 26: Peoples Conference chairman and former minister SajadGani Lone on Wednesday claimed that a non-state subject Indian Police Services (IPS) officer is indulging in electoral politics and that he will name the top officer soon.

“IPS officer of the rank of ADGP indulging in electoral politics.Summoned some SPs, DSPs deliberating how to script a wave for his fav leader.Will name him soon. But hope @PMOIndia @jandkgovernor @KVijayKumarIPS take note. give us an even play field. Is that too much to ask,” Lone wrote on his Twitter handle.

Lone said if the police officer was keen to fight elections he must do it in his own state.

“If the said ADGP is so keen to enter politics let him go and fight in his own state. Don’t the people of J & K deserve to choose their leader without these Machiavellian tactics. Aren’t rigged elections the reason where we r today. Are their no lessons to be learnt (Sic),” Lone said.
