Budgam, Dec 24: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and former legislator, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Sunday lambasted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for hampering the construction of Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) campus in Budgam which was inaugurated in 2013.

In response to a story titled “5 years on, govt fails to start construction of MANUU campus in Budgam”, Mehdi said that like other universities of the country, MANUU campus also became the “victim of BJP’s vindictive politics” whereas their former ally Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acted as spectator.

“This project became a victim of @BJP4India vindictive politics like many other Universities including prestigious AMU. Despite reminding the state govt and PDP in the Assembly to get fundings from the GOI, they played spectators. All we get after 5 years is some money for a wall (sic),” former Budgam MLA wrote on his Twitter handle.

Accusing PDP of becoming “helpless before BJP”, he said that despite raising the issue of MANUU campus in the state Assembly, PDP seemed reluctant for “obvious reasons”.

“I reminded PDP Government about the University in the Assembly and asked them. But their response was helpless before BJP or politically not willing for obvious reasons (sic),” NC chief spokesperson wrote.

Meanwhile, people here have shown strong resentment against district administration, state and central governments for not starting the construction work on the proposed varsity despite passing of more than five years.
