Kulgam boy makes it to IPL

Srinagar: The youngest among the four children of a school teacher, a Kashmiri pacer, Rasikh Salam Dar, 17, a teenager from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district has made it the much hyped Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2019 edition and shall play for the Mumbai Indians in the upcoming tourney.

After being shortlisted by famous Indian bowler Irfan Pathan during a talent hunt, Dar went on to feature in the state’s under-19 team for the Cooch Behar Trophy where his performance received great  appreciation and went on to be picked for the state’s senior team that played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

A great fan of former Pakistan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar, Dar, the 4th cricketer from the state to be picked for the IPL, saw Mumbai Indians bidding for him for Rs 20 lakh and it was a ‘dream come true’ for him as the he later shared his excitement with media agencies. He expressed his happiness by thanking almighty, family and JKCA and stated that he would continue working in order to perform well in the IPL.

Talking to media about his selection Dar said: “I worked hard for this and played with utmost dedication in the district tournament that opened my ways for the talent hunt. Pathan Bhai and others appreciated my skill and I was finally selected for the senior team. it is a dream come true for me as IPL is any cricketers dream,” he said.
