16th of December is celebrated every year as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate the Indian Army’s victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, which terminated with the total capitulation of the Pakistani Army in erstwhile East Pakistan that  led to the birth of Bangladesh. In this War, the Indian Army had captured, 93,000 prisoners of war, the maximum number since the end of the Second World War. The Chinar Corps was responsible for the entire Jammu & Kashmir during the War and, ably supported by the Awaam of the State, gave a sterling account of itself in various battles fought in J&K theatre achieving many successes.

The momentous day was befittingly celebrated with same pride and vigour at different Army formations and units all across the Valley.
