Agricultural exhibition cum Kissan Goshti begins at Kargil

KARGIL, DECEMBER 14: A two-day district level Agricultural Exhibition cum Kissan Goshti began here today under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

The programme is aimed to impart knowledge to the farmers of the district about the modern agricultural interventions for improving and   production. A large number of farmers and the members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from different agriculture zones of the district are participating in the programme where they are getting enlightened with different agricultural techniques and latest trends.

Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Vikas Kundal today inaugurated the exhibition.

Chief Agriculture Officer Ghulam Muhammad Khan, Chief Horticulture Officer Sarabajit Singh, Prof and Head Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dr Ghulam Mehdi, Deputy Director Command Area Development   Kacho Muhammad Ali Khan, District Horticulture Officer Ali Raza, other concerned officers of Agriculture and line departments and scientists were present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that such training shall go a long way in updating farmers about the latest agricultural interventions.

The DC said that agricultural expertise continues to play a key role in giving a boost to farmers’ economy and urged upon all the participating farmers to exude enthusiasm and interest in the training sessions. He said that through the training programme, they got the opportunity to take full benefit from the technical know-how which is being provided to them by the department through qualified agriculture technocrats.

The DC also visited the stalls installed by the department and interacted with the farmers to get their feedback about various schemes. He instructed the officers to lay emphasis for enhancing the production of cash crops so as to give a boost to farmers’ economy.

The DC also released the Agriculture Calendar of the Department of Agriculture for the year 2019-2020 on the occasion.

Meanwhile, on the first day of the training programme, scientists from KVK Kargil and officers from Agriculture and allied departments enlightened the farmers about modern techniques to be adopted in crop husbandry, kitchen gardening, farm machinery, high-quality hybrid seeds, improved varieties of vegetables and other related aspects etc.

Farmers were given knowledge of different State and Centrally Sponsored schemes in vogue in the agriculture sector and different incentives available to them under these schemes.

In the exhibition different types of farm machines, tools and implements, different kinds of seeds of hybrid, high yielding varieties, cereals, pulses, fodder, vegetables, flower seeds, bulbs and root caps were put on display.

Earlier the Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil while highlighting the activities of the department for the welfare of farmers in the district spoke about the various schemes and incentives being provided to them.
