Budgam: Final phase of Panchayat election ends with no polling on 99% seats

Budgam, Dec 11: With majority of the Sarpanch Halqas and Panch wards in Budgam witnessing no polling in the first eight phases of Panchayat elections; same was repeated on Tuesday in Chadoora and Pakherpora here in the last phase as voting was not held for more than 99 percent seats.

Among 39 Sarpanch Halqas and 319 Panch wards in twin blocks, elections took place for two seats in Pakherpora which recorded 38.38 percent turnout.

Out of 1818 registered voters, 706 exercised their franchise in Chalyan Chontinar and Nagbal.

In Chadoora, no voting was seen as the seats either were won by candidates unopposed or remained vacant.

Both the blocks are consisting of 39 Sarpanch Halqas and 319 Panch wards.

A total of 12 Sarpanchs were elected unopposed. Similarly, 64 Panch nominees won uncontested.
