Agri Dept organizes Training on Organic Farming for LRPs

JAMMU December 10: A two-day Training Programme on Organic Farming for Lead Resource Persons (LRPs) of organic clusters under Prampragat Krishi Vikas Yogna (PKVY) was organized  today here at Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo.

The programme was inaugurated by Director Agriculture, Jammu H. K. Razdan.

Speaking on the occasion, Razdan said that this is first initiative of its kind in which participants will get the opportunity to learn all the aspects of organic farming. He advised them to update their technical and scientific know how including latest guidelines regarding Participatory Guarantee System (PGS), handling of Web Portal and consequent implementation of same in the field. He told that the main objective of establishing these organic clusters include Promotion of pesticide residue free commercial organic production that will contribute to improve the health of consumer and raise farmer’s income and create potential market for traders.  It will motivate the farmers for natural resource mobilization for input production

Joint Directorate of Agriculture Extension, Bulesh Zutshi, apprised that the purpose of the training is to educate the LRPs to speed up the ground level activities in the organic clusters, clarify the doubts and receiving first hand feedback from the participants from all districts of the Jammu Division. He also informed that 23 organic clusters are operational in Jammu Province including 11 under Capex and 12 under PKVY.

The technical session is being conducted by the experts including Dr. Manoj Kumar from National Centre of Organic Farming (NCOF) Panchkula, Dr. Viveek Arya, Dr. Menakshi, Dr.Amitash Sharma from SKUAST-Jammu, Sh V. K. Raina, SMS (RL), Jammu and Y. S. Sasan, Programme officer, JDAE who will cover the topics like registration and certification under PGS system, Nutrient Management in organic farming, weed management, Organic farming in cereals and vegetables, insect pest management etc.

Joint Director(Inputs), K.S. Sambyal, Deputy Director (Central), Jagmohan Bhat, SMS (RL) P. S. Mastana, District officers, AEOs, AEAs from different districts  were present on the occasion.
