Baramulla Premier League cricket tournament concludes

Baramulla, Dec 05: Baramulla Premiere League 2018- a two months long cricket tournament organized by Army’s Dagger Division under aegis of Chinar Corps in Baramulla concluded on Wednesday in which of 64 teams from various parts of Baramulla district which was divided into four pools of sixteen teams each participated.

In the final match played between BCC Reds and DC XI at Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla and DC XI defeated BCC Reds with 31 runs and lifted the championship trophy.

After winning the toss BCC Reds offered DC XI to bat first. DC XI scored 141 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, while chasing the target BCC Reds could score 110 runs as its batting order collapsed like cards in the middle of the final clinch. Yawar Ahmed of DC XI won main of match after he scored 53 runs.

Baramulla Premier Leaque was played in six stages namely Knock out stage, League, pre-quarter finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand finale from 17 Oct to 05 Dec 2018. The final was played between BCC Reds v/s DC XI at Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla and DC XI bags the Trophy.

The final match witnessed a massive turnout of public from Baramulla district, prominent personalities from civil and district administration besides senior Army and Police officers. Speaking on the occasion, Maj Gen Gulab Singh Rawat, General Officer Commanding Dagger Division emphasised on Army’s continued efforts towards building bridges with Awam, nurturing sporting culture and identifying young talent among the youth of the valley.

The annual sporting extravaganza provides a huge platform to the young budding sportsman to showcase their talent and to prepare them for their future prospects. Attractive cash awards cricket gear and mementos were presented by GOC, Dagger Division during the closing ceremony of the tournament.

The tournament was a huge success and was conducted in a very friendly and fair atmosphere by the umpiring staff provided by the JKCA and also included for the first time the provision of Video referrals. The live update of the tournament was also made available to the players and cricket enthusiasts online
