Srinagar, 03 December, 2018: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar on Monday visited the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Geelani RA at Khanyar to take stock of the arrangements for the approaching Urs there.

“I have impressed on the local administration to make all possible arrangements for the forthcoming Urs. I have had discussion with the caretakers of the shrine. I look forward to synchronized effort by the administration and the caretakers during the Urs days,” he said.

Sagar impressed upon the administration to ensure uninterrupted power supply, steady water deliverance to the shrine and adjoining areas in view of the forthcoming Urs observance day. “The shrine unfortunately was damaged in a conflagration. It was Omar Abdullah led government which didn’t spare any effort to restore back the edifice to its pristine glory. Rs 20 Cr was sanctioned by the then Omar Abdullah led government for the reconstruction works,” he said.

Sagar assured all support to the caretaker of shrine Syed Khalid Geelani for the observance day.

Meanwhile, JKNC women’s wing president Shameema Firdous while addressing a gathering of women’s wing here at party head quarters Nawa E Subah vouched for a society which is sensible towards the issues of women. “National Conference is alive to the issues of women. We will continue to highlight the issues of women. Our party believes in gender equality,” she said.

Shameema Firdous highlighted the inexorable onslaught of the current administration on the institutions of state. “It is highly unfortunate to see governor administration politicking.  The mounting woes of people vis-à-vis power supply and water supply has aggravated the people, the indifference of the administration is making things worse,” she said.

Provincial president Sabiya Qadiri also spoke on the occasion and urged women to stand for their rights.  “No society can develop if half of the population is in distress. A nation to develop has to be appreciative of women and their rights,” she said

“Our party functionaries have to maintain discipline, it is the discipline that holds the key to success,” she said.
