Awareness cum training programme on disaster management held at Shopian

SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 01: To create training /awareness about disaster management among students, volunteers and civil society in general, a daylong awareness program cum workshop and mock drill was organized by District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Shopian, here at mini secretariat Arhama Shopian.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Shabir Hussain Bhat who is also chief executive officer disaster management Shopian was the chief guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Executive Officer  DDMA) said that aim of holding such events is to raise the awareness about effective actions, policies and practices to be taken at the community level to save the property and human lives in the event of a disaster.

ADC lauded the role of SDRF team for organising such camps at the Tehsil levels for the benefit of students /general masses and hoped that the effort would go a long way in protecting the precious lives and property during, fire incidents and other exigencies effectively.

During the training programme, Technical Experts from SDRF present on the occasion delivered lectures and live demonstration drills on post-disaster management like firefighting, first aid, and rescue operations with a purpose to enhance capacity building and community awareness for minimizing risks in the event of untoward happenings.

They also spoke on the occasion and elaborated on general instructions including do’s and don’ts to be fallowed during Disasters like floods, earthquake, fire etc.

On the directions of District Administration Shopian, a series of such awareness and preparedness programmes were also organised at tehsil levels of the district including Tehsil Shopian, Keller, Keegam, Hermain, Barbug, Zainapora and Chittragam.

The training/awareness programme was attended by the Officers/officials of District Administration Shopian, ICDS, Health, Education, and Engineering department, SDRF, volunteers, Students and other concerned.
