CEC said that travelling by air is not a luxury but a compulsion for Ladakhis due to the closure of two vital highways for six to seven months in winter which virtually makes it impossible for the section of society such as patients, students, pilgrims and others to visit other parts for the country and added that travelling abroad is much cheaper than to travel to Leh by air.

CEC requested Dr Jitendra to act on the long pending demand of subsidized tariff, capping of the airfare or framing flat flight rate for the local people and the government employees working in the Ladakh region.

Responding to the demands of CEC, Dr Jitendra Singh immediately wrote a letter to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha mentioning all the genuine reasons for the demand of subsidized tariff flight rate for Ladakhi people. He called on the Ministry of Civil Aviation to work out an arrangement whereby the bonafide local residents of Ladakh could be benefited.
