Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrated with religious gaiety in Baramulla

Baramulla, Nov 23: Praying for peace and tranquility to return in state, hundreds of devotees on Friday thronged Gurudwara Chatipadshahi in Baramulla to celebrate Guru Nanak Jayanti also known ‘Gurpurab’ -549th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev with traditional gaiety and religious fervour.

Chanting religious hymns, devotees who paid their obeisance at Gurudwara prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in the state. The devotees including men, women and children made a beeline in the premises of Gurudwara Chatipadshahi to have special meals- Langer.

The main function was celebrated at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara and Gurudwara of 46 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion with great reverence and zeal. The function was attended by General Officer Commanding, 15 Corps, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, GOC 19 Infantry Division Major General GS Rawat, Commander 79 Mountain Brigade and Commander 19 Artillery Brigade at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara as well as at local RR Battalion location.

Talking to Kashmir Images, a Sikh devotee Janak Singh Sodhi said, “The auspicious Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday teaches us to live in brotherhood, amity and work together to fight ignorance, poverty and other problems of people.”

“We have done all the arrangements for devotees with good cooperation from police and civil administration,” added Singh.

The celebrations included Anand Sahib and Guru Ka Langer.

Lt Gen AK Bhatt conveyed his greetings to everyone present and wished peace and prosperity to the people of Baramulla. It is believed that the sixth Guru of Sikhs Shri Hargobind Ji travelled throughout Kashmir and wherever he preached a Gurudwara was later built which includes Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara at Baramulla.
