Awareness Camp Commemorating 65th Cooperative week held at Baramulla

BARAMULLA, NOVEMBER 19: As part of the 65th All India cooperative week being celebrated throughout the country, Cooperatives Department Baramulla today organized a day-long awareness camp with the theme “Government Schemes & income generation through Cooperative units” in which representatives of various financial institutions, banks, cooperative society members, traders and others related with cooperative societies participated.

Director Planning A G Malik was the chief guest whereas Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies (Hqr) Mushtaq Ahmad Makdoomi was the guest of honour at the event.

On the occasion, Assistant Registrar Gh Hasan Lone highlighted the progress of achievements and services of Cooperatives in uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the people. He said that in district Baramulla, there are 82-functional Cooperative Institutions of various types and more than 20 Self Reliant Functional Cooperatives.

Enumerating the achievements made during the year 2017-18, the Assistant registrar said that the department distributed 15,000 qtls of Fertilizer, 30,00,000 Litre of Kerosene Oil and Consumer goods worth Rs 14.73 Lakh through its Secondary Level Cooperative Societies. He further added that it produced 70,000 Poultry birds and Dairy products worth Rs 50.00 Lakh through its poultry and dairy Cooperative Institutions respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest hailed the efforts of cooperatives in socio-economic development and said that the need of the hour is to disseminate awareness among people about various services offered by the department. He stressed for the revival of languishing societies besides assuring every possible support in strengthening them.

Terming the cooperative department as an institution of social empowerment, A G Malik said that the services delivered by it, directly touches the livelihood of the people especially the weaker and downtrodden sections of the society. Moreover, he urged for providing people-oriented services besides deliberated for the inclusion of more members so that the base is strengthened.

Meanwhile, DDM NABARD Zubair Wasil highlighted the schemes and services of the board and said that the board offers various programmes through which the unemployed youth can earn their sustainable livelihood.
