At minus 6.2 degree celsius, Kargil area of Ladakh region of Kashmir recorded the lowest temperature while it was minus 5 in Leh, minus 4 in Gulmarg, 3.2 in Srinagar and 1.1 degrees Celsius at Pahalgam. Minimum temperature in Jammu was 12.6 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, several roads leading to border areas in north Kashmir’s Kupwara districts were closed on Tuesday following fresh snowfall in higher reaches and rains in plains.

Reports said that the higher reaches of Kupwara are witnessing snowfall from early morning due to which the border roads have been closed.

The road connecting Machil and Keran with the district headquarters have been closed for vehicular movement. However the road connecting Tanghdar with Kupwara is open for traffic, officials said.

“The roads have been closed for vehicular movement as these areas are avalanche-prone. The roads will be re-opened with the improvement in weather,” said an official in the district administration.

Authorities on Tuesday also suspended traffic movement on Bandipora-Gurez road following fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass.

An official said that the traffic movement was suspended as a ‘precautionary measure’ as there was moderate snowfall going on at Razdan Pass since Tuesday morning.

“Due to the moderate snowfall the Bandipora-Gurez has become slippery and to avoid any untoward incident, all sorts of vehicular movement on the road has been suspended,” he said.

He said that it was also snowing in Dawar, Kanzalwan, Bagtore and Tulail areas of Bandipora since today morning.
