Awantipora, Nov 8: Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) celebrated its 13th Foundation Day with much fervor here today.

The event that had multiple sessions and performances was organized by Islamic University Faculty Association (IUFA) which also unveiled its official logo on this occasion.

While congratulating the entire IUST fraternity, Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof Mushtaq A. Siddiqi who was the chief guest during the event lauded the efforts put forward by everyone involved with the university right from its inception and put on record the contribution of his predecessors. “Within just 12 years, IUST has made its mark in the field of higher education in the region and is recognized on the map of academic excellence by various eminent platforms. This has been a collective effort of the entire IUST fraternity,” he said.

Prof. Siddiqi also talked about his vision for the varsity and called on faculty to keep on improving the ‘research profile’ of the university which was established under the Act no XVIII passed by J&K legislature on 7th November, 2005.

Former Vice Chancellor, Prof Siddiq Wahid who was the guest of honour shared his experiences as the founding Vice Chancellor of IUST and talked about the paradigm under which it worked during his tenure. He said, “The focus was always on student-teacher dialogue and to make university a garden for dialogue.” Prof. Wahid also acknowledged the active support received by him from the teaching and non-teaching staff of the varsity during its infancy.

Deans of various schools, Prof. A. H Moon, Prof. Abdul Salam Bhat, Prof Rather gave presentations on achievements and vision of different departments Various cultural performances by TulKul Cultural Group, and university students –  AamirYousuf, AmanShabir, Hameem Malik, Manan Khan were also organized besides unveiling of IUFA’s official logo designed by a B.Tech Student Sahil Shoukat and Sr. Asst Prof. Journalism Monisa Qadri on this occasion.

Others present at the occasion were Registrar IUST, SyedReyazRufai, former Dean School of Business Studies Prof. A.R Mattoo, and Former Chief Librarian Prof. W. A Alvi, Deans of various schools, HOD’s of different departments, officers, present and former faculty members and students. The proceedings were conducted by Dr. Abdul Majeed Andrabi and Dr. Anisa Khan proposed a vote of thanks.
