Srinagar, October 24: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said action will be taken against those candidates who join other political parties after winning recently concluded Urban Local Body (ULB) on BJP mandate.

Addressing a press conference after celebrating saffron party’s maiden win in ULB elections in Kashmir, BJP State President Ravinder Raina said that party is at liberty to initiate legal actions against those candidates who win elections on BJP ticket and later on joined other political parties.

“We too received reports that some of our candidates have joined other parties after winning elections on BJP mandate in Sopore Township, they will be dealt with legally,” Raina said.

It is in place to mention that Janata Dal United (JDU) which also took part in ULB elections claimed that eight BJP winning candidates from Sopore Township in north  Kashmir joined the party.

Raina however refuted reports about a BJP candidate from central Budgam after winning elections joined Congress.

On being asked as to who will be the next mayor for Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), he replied parties with clear majority can stake claim for Mayor.

“BJP runs short of figures. Parties with clear majority can stake claim for Mayor Post,” Raina added.

The firebrand BJP leader form Jammu who always stokes controversies through his provocative statements however said BJP won 106 seats in Kashmir which is a big achievement for the party.

“In seventy year’s history, BJP won 106 seats in Kashmir valley which is a major achievement for the party. Our focus will be on development only and we will also try to get adequate funds from the centre in this direction,” Raina said.

Terming BJP’s legal action threat as frustration of saffron party, JDU State Secretary, G.M Shahheen said Anti Defection Law is applicable for MLA’s and MLC’s and not local body representatives.

“BJP being a non-secular party can only intimidate people. On what basis BJP take action against anyone because Anti Defection Law is not applicable for local body representatives,” JDU leader told Kashmir Images.

He also said that JDU across Jammu and Kashmir bagged 68 seats in Urban Local Body polls and his party will also stake claim for Mayor.
