Srinagar, October 23: Police on Tuesday foiled National Conference protest march to Lal Chowk against killing of seven civilians in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Sunday.

The protestors alleged that present dispensation led by the Governor has miserably failed to handle the situation in Kashmir.

As the marchers reached near TRC crossing, a posse of police stopped them leading to a minor argument between police and NC workers. The protesters later dispersed off peacefully.

Talking to reporters, NC General Secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar while condemning the killings demanded exemplary punishment to the perpetrators involved in killing seven civilians in Laroo Kulgam.

“Two children among seven persons lost their lives in Kulgam. Can government justify this ghastly incident?  Vandalizing property and killings have become the order of the day in Kashmir. We appeal the Home Minister who is on visit to Kashmir to realize that center’s rigid approach is not going to work anymore,” said Sagar while talking to media.

He said the meaningful dialogue is the only way out to restore normalcy in Kashmir which is witnessing endless violence since decades.

“The only way out to restore normalcy and to end bloodshed lies with meaningful dialogue. Government of India should realize that its rigid and wrong policies vis-à-vis Kashmir will lead Kashmir to destruction,” he added.

Addressing the rally additional general secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that the dispensation which is at the helm of affairs in New Delhi is inimical towards the special status of the state.

“On one side New Delhi says that Jammu and Kashmir is the crown of India, but in the very same tone they want to desecrate the bond that connects Jammu and Kashmir with the union of India. The people of Jammu and Kashmir will stand against any such machinations that aim to fiddle with our special status,” he said.

Other NC leaders who participated in the rally included, Mubarak Gul, Irfan Shah, Nasir Aslam Wani, Shameema Firdous, Slaman Ali Sagar, Abdul Majeed Larmi and Altaf Kaloo.
